VN Legetøj — one B2B web shop, three countries, zero duplicate work

Three countries. Around 2,000 products. Every customer with their own prices. VN Legetøj sells toys to shops in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and their web shop is a big part of daily life for both the buyers and VN itself.

The current shop is solid business. It works, the customers know it, and the price engine does exactly what VN needs. But it is heavy to develop further, and data moves between the shop and the ERP in files once a day. So the job is not to start over. It is to keep what works and build a modern engine underneath it.

VN has said yes, and the work is under way.

The idea: one shop, three countries

Today there are three shops to keep in step. Going forward there is one. Denmark, Norway and Sweden share the same foundation, and only language and price differ. One fix reaches all three countries at once.

The most important part is left alone: the price engine is kept 1:1. Customer-specific prices, offers and quantity breaks work exactly as they do today. For a buyer in Bergen or Malmö the new shop should feel like the old one, only faster.

What we are building

  • A fast shop, on mobile too. Built mobile-first and delivered as an app on the home screen (PWA), without an app store.
  • My account with the full history. Purchase history and invoices three years back, including discontinued products, with invoices as PDF.
  • Order proposals. The sales rep builds a proposal, the customer approves it, and reminders and expiry take care of themselves.
  • Self-service content. VN edits front pages, info pages and terms of sale in all three languages in a simple web admin, without waiting for us.
  • A modern Scandinavian design, built on VN's own look.

Less manual work

Four things that take hands today no longer will:

  • Cross-selling on the product page. The shop suggests related products by itself, with no lists for anyone to maintain.
  • New arrivals without upkeep. New products appear as news on their own and disappear again after 30 days.
  • Text in three languages, in one place. Danish, Norwegian and Swedish cannot drift out of step.
  • Order proposals that look after themselves. Emails, reminders and expiry with no manual follow-up.

AI where it actually helps

Not AI for show. An assistant in My account answers questions such as "when did I last receive this product?" from the customer's own order data. Search finds products by meaning, not only by product number, and product and content text is translated into all three languages. Customer data is processed by AI hosted in the EU.

Data that is alive

Today data moves in files once a day. Going forward VN's products, prices and orders live in a modern database with us in Stockholm, and orders go to the ERP every five minutes. VN also gets two keys to its own data: an API for its own systems and an MCP connection, so its AI tools can ask questions directly in plain language. Every order and change is logged in a trail that cannot be altered afterwards.

Built for the next ten years

Two machines run side by side, so new versions are swapped in with no downtime, and there is a spare if one fails. Everything is hosted in the EU, and the solution is assembled from proven building blocks, so the work goes into VN's business logic rather than infrastructure.

Status: The project is under way. We will tell you more once the shop is live in all three countries.
